Every year when April arrives, I can't forget the fateful day April 30, 1975 when South Vietnam collapsed. My family followed people in Saigon and tried by all means to escape to another unknown land for survival. At that time, I was a young girl. I had no understanding what happened to my country; I sensed a tremendous fear grasping me in a whirlwind of confusion. After that, I was too busy with a new life in a foreign country, a different language, strange customs, work... no time for Vietnam! No time to search for the reason why I've become a citizen of the United States of America. President Kennedy did not agree to continue the presence of the US military in Vietnam in 1963. Why were the American troops still there until 1975?
How many years have gone by since the day I left home?
